Sam learned to ride without training wheels today. Two weeks ago we purchased a 12" bike with training wheels for him, and at first he was gung ho about taking off the training wheels, but quickly wanted them back on again. This morning he asked for me to take off the training wheels. He tried to ride a couple of times and then wanted them back on. I suggested we take off the pedals instead so he could scoot around and learn to balance first. He was interested in that. We put the pedals on and off a few times as he played around with it. By mid afternoon he was getting his feet on the pedals, balancing and getting in a turn or two of the pedals. He was showing everyone on the deck and pretty excited about it.
We took a break and then after Max woke up we all decided to go down to a school (with a rubbery surface) and tool around the playground. Much to our surprise Sam was pretty quickly riding around the whole playground without really stopping. He then wanted to ride around the block and across the field, which he did.
