Happy Birthday!

My 42nd year rolled in with an early morning run and some waffles.  After work we had the Wicketts, Wortons and Buckmeiers over for dinner, and then followed up with a movie!

Revelstoke skate ski race

This weekend was another nordic ski race, in Revelstoke this time.  Sam went up with AJ on Friday to beat the expected road closures and placed 4th in the classic ski (his best finish)!  I brought Max up Saturday and he did his first race on skate skis on Sunday.  Sam placed 7th, just edged out by another skier and a few seconds behind Eli.  Max was the only boy Atom, and placed 1st, but his time was up there with some of the 8 year olds on the ski team, so he raced hard!  You can see the determination on te shot below as he sizes up the finish line !

Loppet, swim, soccer and a movie!

Today was an fun day.  Got up early with Darcy and the kids and raced off to Larch Hills bright and early for today's Loppet.  I did a 10km race, Sam did 5km, Max and Katy did 2km and Ian did 1km.  Everyone did great, and I was proud of our family's effort and sportsmanship!  Darcy (and Martha) supported the little two since I was skiing too.  After that, we went to the free swim at the pool (for Loppet participants). An hour and a half later and it was time for my co-ed soccer game (with Anitra).  Sam read a Harry Potter book and watching while the rest of the crew went to the award ceremony (Ian and Max got 2nds in their categories).  Thanks Mike for the photos!

We had a really good game of soccer against a tough tream and came out on top.  After that, we had pizza while we watched Star Wars (episode V) amd Darcy headed out for Sandra's birthday.  Sounds busy, but it was really a fun day!

Snowshoeing!

 Today I helped out as a parent/volunteer with Max's class up at Larch Hills.  The grade 2's did a snowshoe day - so we did a 5km walk, followed by lunch and some games.  It was a fun day, and my 2nd or third time on my snowshoes so I was excited too!  We saw a lot of evidence of wildlife, from squirrel discard piles, to snowshoe hare tracks and some birds, too.

Another Nordic Ski day

Today we took the Hyndman's up to Larch HIlls for a ski.  The weather was pretty perfect, around -8C...

New Year's Day dinner

Tonight we went over to Lynne and Ian's for dinner to bring in the new year...  Afterwards we tried a family game of Creationary.
