2018 Reino Keski-Salmi Loppet

Our local Loppet was in danger of not running this year after our long-time Chief of Race stepped down.  I volunteered to fill in that position, which involved some meetings and getting both level 1 and 2 officials training.  I was a little bit worried about how it would all go, but the 250 other volunteers really got things done!  Everything went well, and the day went off without a hitch, with a nice batch of new snow that everyone said was lovely to ski though.  The kids did well, with Max getting 2nd in his group, and Ian 4th in his. Sam skied the 17km recreational route with Eli and Frankie, which was fun to see!  Katy did the 5km as well, and did great!

BC Cup #1

The first of the BC Cup series took place at Whistler Olympic Park this year.  All four kids raced both days, while Brad did the 10km Classic race.  It was raining on the Friday when we drove down, but luckily stayed pretty dry on Saturday.  Sunday had some snow, which was great.

Beautiful Weather

It is really feeling like winter these days, with blue skies and cold air.  This afternoon we skated down at DeMilles on their outdoor rink.

Snow-cream!

I've been talking about it for a while, but today we finally got some condensed milk, vanilla and fresh snow and made ice cream.  It tastes great!

Bantam pyjama day at Tom's shelter

It was a gorgeous day to have a marshmallow roast at Tom's shelter!  The Bantam group wore pyjamas and did a bit of backcountry skiing to get to the shelter, while the coaches carried wood and supplies for the fire.  The kids had a blast!
