Penticton Invitational Swim Meet 2015

This weekend we headed down to Penticton for this year's swim meet. Trev and Maureen also met up with us to see the kids swim.  Maureen wasn't able to get down to meet us until Saturday night, due to a showing at the Winchester Gallery in Victoria opening this weekend.

The kids all did great!  Sam ended up with the bronze aggregate, and Max put in some great best times, taking up to 13 seconds off in one case!  Katy did a 25m butterfly, and impressed us with the fact that she could actually do a length of butterfly!  Ian did 25m of freestyle and backstroke, mostly getting to the other end on his own :)

Salmon Arm Swim Meet 2015!

This weekend was the local swim meet in Salmon Arm.  Since our club hosts this one the meet starts on Friday night, getting the pool ready, and ends Sunday night with a dinner after take-down.  The kids did great, although Max got poked in the eye (accidentally) by someone grabbing their hat, and he ended up with a really painful scratch on his cornea.  After seeing a doctor (thanks Dr. Levin!) at the pool and getting a bit of relief, he went on to make all his finals and set some best times.  Sam ended up netting the Bronze aggregate medal (third overall in six races).  The boy and girls, plus the overall team medals all went to the Sockeyes this time, and Ian was sent up by the boys to accept the boy's medal - he is the unofficial team mascot!  Ian did a 25m freestyle and backstroke length, mostly on his own, while Katy did a 50m freestyle and 50m backstroke unassisted in Division 1, her first meet with a 'real' race.  She also did a team relay, as did the two older boys.

Merritt 2015 Invitational

It was an exciting weekend in Merritt for the Calkins boys!  Sam and Max both were awarded an aggregate bronze medal for ranking third overall in their divisions.  They competed in 7 events plus relays, so they were busy!
